The Story of the
The OPPENHEIMER EDITIONS are the first facsimile editions to accurately replicate the quality of original engravings and lithographs of the past. These critically acclaimed publications achieve an esthetic quality that we endorse as comparable to the originals. The remarkable similarity to the original hand-colored prints cannot be overstated.
State-of-the-art digital imaging and printing are being utilized to create limited edition prints that match the originals exactly in size, color and paper quality. Conventional photography and film are not used in this process. Super high definition scans are taken directly from the originals in the museum collections. As many as ten proofing stages are involved before a finished print is accepted. Nothing has been spared in the production of these editions which will have taken ten years and millions of dollars to complete.
A remarkable union of timing, talent and technology has enabled us to create what heretofore would not have been possible. An exclusive licensing agreement between OPPENHEIMER EDITIONS and some of the worlds finest institutional collections insures that the number of sets produced will be strictly limited. These images cannot be used again for any similar purpose for a minimum of seventy-five years. The printing process that literally allows us to print with watercolors is actually being perfected with the production of The Oppenheimer Museum Editions.
Each print is on Somerset velvet, an acid-free, and one-hundred percent cotton fiber watercolor paper imported from England. Each print is embossed by hand with the OPPENHEIMER EDITIONS stamp and the Official Kew Gardens stamp. The verso of every print is numbered and stamped with the Kew Gardens directors signature.
These editions are a continuing series which is making an historic effort to recreate, in the highest quality possible facsimile form, rare prints from the renowned natural history collections from the Worlds greatest museums and institutions. The institution benefits directly from the royalties accrued from every sale.
The prints are being offered to collectors in three different options: Individual prints: Individual prints can be purchased from any of the collections currently available.
Complete sets: Complete sets of the artists’ works are available on a subscription basis. Each set consists of the Fifty Best images each artist created in his or her lifetime. The Fifty Best prints will be released over a four year period in five parts of ten prints each (the complete fifty of the Audubon Birds and Quadrupeds and part one of the other artists is available now). The subscription price for the set is noted in each artist’s chapter. This is a great value because the complete set is sold at a reduced price and the payment schedule is spread over a four year period.
Patron Level Subscriptions: Patron level subscribers will receive the entire series, all eleven editions on a subscription basis. As an added bonus to the substantially discounted rate of the complete sets, you will be entitled to full leather bindings for each set at no additional charge, a value of over ten of thousand dollars. Imagine recreating one of the world’s greatest libraries in your own home. This is truly an opportunity to acquire an heirloom quality collection that will be unrivaled in beauty and cherished by future generations.
